In Broadway’s “The Notebook”, video works as animated light by delivering water reflections and leafy shadows to the stage. The story travels back and forth through time, so the design oscillates between representing memory and material things. It gives a sense of place, but also translates characters’ experiences into a language of poignant and poetic symbols.
